Background:
With the development of AR technology, more and more hotels and business convention centres are interested in building an AR/VR version of their spaces for potential customers and business partners to preview. In 2019, we were approached by a leading hotel chain that wanted to visualise some of its hotel suites based in the United States. They were intrigued by the possibilities that AR could offer to a hospitality industry.
Innovation:
This project didn’t require any WebAR technologies and would be mostly distributed directly to customers (sales representatives would use their iPad Pro to showcase future stays to prospect customers). As a pilot, we have selected two of the chain’s US hotels (in New York and Georgetown DC) and used AR Portal technology which helps to project virtual environments into your real-world setting.
Results:
Two spaces (with a total size of 2,500 sqft) were recreated in Augmented Reality;
More than 10x interactive hotspots were integrated within the experience (including photo, video information and integration with corporate Content Management System).
The demo was showcased to more than 100x VIP customers during various showcases and sales pitches in 2019.
Platform Used:
ARKit 3 development kit (for iPad Pro);
ARCore development kit (second part of the project, was only made for Samsung Galaxy smartphones).
