Background:

Showcasing industrial equipment during various industry events may be a tedious process: equipment logistic, certification, custom clearance, physical sizes and support on site. Thus our European customer decided to create a real equipment configurator in Augmented Reality. And to move this experience even further, to integrate step-by-step AR support guide (which will save money for their customers and significantly improve post-sales service quality).

Innovation:

This project didn’t require any WebAR technologies and will be mostly distributed directly to customers. Keeping in mind that equipment cost was within the 50,000 USD price-range, we didn’t expect more than 1,000 customers to use this experience. Thus, we have created a full interactive AR simulation of the equipment where you can preview real sizes, build different configurations and launch a step-by-step AR guide to do equipment maintenance. 

Results:

• In total, more than 150 existing customers downloaded the AR app from corporate AppStore and Google Play.

• More than 40% of new customers download the AR operating guide within the first week of equipment purchase.

• At least 50x trips of support engineers were “saved” in 2019 due to use of an AR maintenance guide.

Platform Used:

• ARKit 3 development kit (for iOS devices such as iPhone and iPad Pro);

• ARCore development kit (for most of Android devices including phones and tablets); 

• AR Quick Look for iPhone (in development) to enable on-website previews.
