Background:
In 2007, UMW opened the UMW Galeriku to showcase the group's corporate heritage, history, progress and growth, which can be traced back to 1917. Located at the company's headquarters in Shah Alam, the 4,521-sq-ft UMW Galeriku houses a Toyota Corolla KE 10 – the first Corolla series assembled in 1968 – a scale model of an oil rig, displays of assembly and rig operations and the group's business and community activities as well as interactive screens.
In 2019, the company decided to upgrade the exhibition and move it into Virtual Reality. To achieve that goal, UMW worked with Entropia Malaysia and Vostok VR Singapore.
Innovation:
Vostok VR was selected as the main production studio for this experience based on its successful work on another interactive 360 video presentations for UMW. These presentations were demonstrated to Menteri Besar of the State of Kedah, Mr. Mukhriz Mahathir (link to the project).
After finalising the overall concept and idea with Entropia, our team started working on this huge project. Vostok VR has filmed and 3D-modelled all of the main interest points, such as the Toyota Corolla KE10, the first-assembled Perodua Kecil, and one of the first Komatsu brought to Malaysia.
It took two months to outline the main concept in VR, then another month to polish the details. The final VR experience was showcased first to the company’s CEO and then to UMW’s Board of Directors.
Results:
Main VR exhibition is installed at Menara UMW HQ and showcased to key UMW business partners;
