Background:

In mid 2019, the Vostok VR team was approached by the customer team of a leading online payment company which wanted to upgrade its existing showroom based in the heart of Singapore’s CBD. This leading financial institution was looking for ways to excite their customers by providing a first look into how payments will be done in future using AR. The showroom should be the first point of interactions with the brand for many new startups and business partners, so they can learn more about this fintech company and their additional services (on top of their well known payment solution). After some preparation and conceptualization, Vostok VR has started working on the project.

Innovation:

In order to understand the innovation of the whole experience, we need to walk you through the experience flow. Usually, AR apps are limited in their functionality – you have just one 3D model to play with and use for simulations. Here, the requirements were very different.

Users will use a provided iPhone to login in to the AR app. Using Face Identification, the user’s picture is compared to an existing database of 20 faces (all showroom employees). If the face is recognised as a showroom visitor, they then need to key in their data (name and email). The user can then proceed to AR shopping where they can preview various merchandise products in AR (corporate t-shirts, branded tumblers, beer glasses, etc). The user selects the product and then adds it to their AR shopping cart.

A consolidated order (number of products, respective sizes and colours) will be then sent to the CMS which will transfer it to a POS terminal where guests can make the final payment. This provides a full-cycle AR payment solution.

Results:

  • Augmented Reality shopping experience was launched in beta by 1st October 2019;

  • Full scale launch was in November 2019 with visit of Global CEO in Singapore;

  • Everyday, the showroom is visited by 15-20 guests (business partners and startups working in online payments).

Platform Used:

  • ARKit 3 development kit (for iPhone demonstration);

  • ARCore development kit (for Samsung Galaxy demonstration);

  • Vuforia Cloud (for real time app update on prices/quantities/sizes).
